THE WALK: Leave the car park and return to the Royal Oak pub and turn down the lane opposite the inn. The lane turns into a gravel track which you continue along to go over a footbridge at the bottom of the slope. Turn right and walk along the left hand bank of the small stream. Your path with meander quite often but always stay in touch with the brook.
Following the stream, you eventually come across two bridges. Ignore these, still keeping on the stream's left hand bank. You later come to another bridge nearly opposite a house (Holly Hatch Cottage). Again you do not use the bridge but still carry on following the stream. About 800 metres past the cottage you come across Splash Bridge which you do use to cross the brook.
After crossing the stream, follow the track ahead as it leads you uphill to reach the edge of the woods of Hasley Inclosure. Turn right here and follow the track around the outside of the Inclosure until you get to a left hand bend in the Inclosure fence line after about 150 metres. At this point, turn right to follow the narrower track downhill aiming for the left hand corner of the Inclosure on the valley floor. Turn right here with the Inclosure fence to your left. Keep following the track as it dissects Alderhill Inclosure to your left and Sloden Inclosure on the right.
Follow this track for about 2km until the Inclosure fence on your right suddenly turns at right angles to lead away up a hill. Follow the fence line up. The path here is a bit indistinct but you are aiming to reach the top of the slope to meet a broad gravel track leading right to left. Turn left onto this track and stay with it as it leads you back to your car and the inn. Home / Salisbury & Wessex / New Forest / Guestbook / Links / Your page / Other Interests |
